The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development. Our fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace. Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and up to 40 for certificate studies at premier universities.

Master’s degree programs

Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body.

The programs last 15 to 24 months and include a two- to three-month field study, which participants design themselves.

Professional development certificate program

During the one-year blended learning program, experienced peace and development professionals with diverse backgrounds gain practical skills to promote peace within their communities and across the globe.

Fellows complete field studies and design and carry out a social change initiative. This program is intended for working professionals. Fellows earn a post-graduate diploma upon completion of the program.

Rotary started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships.

Requirements

  • Be proficient in English.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree.
  • Have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace as shown through professional and academic achievements and personal or community service.
  • Have the potential for leadership.
  • Have at least three years of full-time relevant experience in peace or development work
  • Candidates must have a gap of at least three years between the completion of their most recent academic degree program (undergraduate or graduate degree) and their intended start date for the fellowship.
  • Candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program are not eligible to apply.
  • Rotary Peace Fellows who have completed the certificate program, or a Global Grant Scholarship, must wait three years between the end date of that program and their intended start date for the fellowship.
  • We encourage people with disabilities and people from other diverse backgrounds to apply. we provides reasonable accommodations as needed to people with disabilities.
  • You are not eligible if you are an active Rotary member or an employee of a Rotary club, Rotary International, or other Rotary entity.

Interview date, Process and Venue for master’s degree programs

Between July and October, the Rotary Peace Centers Committee, composed of Rotarians and university representatives, screens applications and selects the finalists based on the following criteria:
  • Commitment to peace and development
  • Leadership potential
  • Compatibility with fellowship objectives and fit with Rotary.
  • Academic record and compatibility with preferred university program
  • Feasibility and impact of Social Change Initiative (certificate only)

Each year the UN Global Compact recognizes a class of SDG Pioneers — business leaders working at any level of their company who are using business as a force for good to advance the 17 SDGs.

Through their own company or by mobilizing other businesses, they are helping to reach one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while also contributing to business success.

In 2023 Local Networks spanning all continents will be hosting country-level SDG Pioneers campaigns to identify Local Pioneers who will then be contenders for the Global Round to be recognized at the 2023 U.N Global Compact Leaders’ Summit.

About United Nations

The English language component of the Indigenous Fellowship Program (IFP) was established in 1997.

It takes place at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland and lasts for 4 weeks, usually coinciding with the annual meeting of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP).

The objective of this training program is to enhance the knowledge of indigenous peoples on existing international human rights instruments and mechanisms.

  • Local Networks will recognize Local Pioneers for the great work that they have done to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • 2023 Global SDG Pioneers will be recognized at the U.N Global Compact Leaders Summit in September 2023.

Requirements

Professionals who are working at any level of a U.N Global Compact participating company are eligible to apply or be nominated. To check whether an organization is a UN Global Compact participating company, please search the participant list online.

For the 2023 SDG Pioneers, they only consider companies who were participants of the UN Global Compact 1 October 2022 and have submitted at least 1 Communication on Progress (CoP).

How to Apply

You can nominate yourself or a colleague at your company, or someone you know from another U.N Global Compact participating company. That individual will then be contacted to ensure their willingness to be considered and the accuracy of the submitted information.

The fellowship welcomes applications from across the Global South for a grant of up to $5,000 to complete translations of works from the African continent and its diaspora, into English or Arabic.

This is a non-residential fellowship that allows the recipient scholar to complete the work outside of The Africa Institute (Sharjah, UAE).

The aim of the fellowship is to make important texts in African and African Diaspora studies accessible to a wider readership across the world.

  • Applications are welcome from across the Global South.

  • Selected projects may be retranslations of old, classic texts, previously untranslated works, poetry, prose, or critical theory collections. The project may be a work-in-progress, or a new project feasible for completion within the timeframe of the grant.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Africa Institute Global Africa Translation Fellowship

Selection Process;
  • All applications will be reviewed by The Africa Institute’s faculty and research fellows.
  • Recipients will be chosen based on the quality of the proposal, and the demonstrated capacity of the applicant to complete the project.
  • The monetary award shall be disbursed in two halves. The first half shall be transferred at the start of the project and the second payment shall be transferred at the completion of the project.
  • The Africa Institute requires the receiving of a copy of the translation for its archival purposes only. The translation will not be published or used for any other purposes unless agreed upon with the awardee.

Documents Required for Application

  •  A two-page CV/résumé including institutional affiliation, educational qualifications, including highest degree received, and key publications/works produced.
  •  A two-page narrative explaining the translation to be undertaken during the fellowship period, an explanation of the importance of the work, a justification for a re-translation, if applicable, and proposed dates of completion. The project may be a work-in-progress or a new project that fits within the timeframe of the grant.
  •  A 4–5-page (double-spaced) sample of the original text(s) and translation.
  •  An explanation of the work’s copyright status: If the work is not in the public domain, please include a copy of the copyright notice from the original text, and a letter from the copyright holder stating that English language rights to the work are available.

Submitted applications must include a statement, sample, copyright status (if applicable), and CV, in that order into a single PDF file.
