JUNIOR PROGRAM OFFICER – IPR (AFCFTA) AT AFRICAN UNION

AFRICAN UNION (AfCFTA) is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and dynamic team player to occupy the vacant position below;

Job Position: JUNIOR PROGRAM OFFICER – IPR (AFCFTA)

Purpose of Job

The job would be to help with the daily operations of the Division and the implementation of policies, projects, and programs related to intellectual property rights (IPRs) at the AfCFTA Secretariat, working closely with senior staff to reach the overall goals of the Division and the Directorate.

Main Functions

  • Help with the daily operations of the Division.
  • Help with the implementation of policies, projects, and programs related to intellectual property rights (IPRs) in the AfCFTA.
  • Help plan, schedule, and participate as a resource person in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Make a list of the points of contact for State Parties and non-State Parties;
  • Serve as a reference at meetings of AfCFTA institutions, especially at meetings of the Committee on IPRs and other workshops on building up people’s skills.
  • Send information and papers to State Parties and Non-State Parties, as well as to participants in the Division’s meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
  • Help set up dates for institutional meetings about IPRs.
  • Keep an up-to-date schedule of all current and future meetings of all levels of the AfCFTA negotiations on intellectual property rights (IPRs).
  • Help make arrangements for translation and interpretation services.
  • Come up with ways to measure the impact of meetings and trade capacity workshops.
  • Help schedule meetings of the Division, including writing memos and budgets.
  • Do any other jobs assigned by the Head of the Division as needed, such as working on a variety of problems to improve communication between the Division and other Divisions in the Directorate.
  • Do any other jobs given by the Supervisor.

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

Bachelor’s degree in international trade, development economics, international relations, international business, international law, political science, or a related field, plus two years of applicable work experience.

  • Must be computer literate and have a working knowledge of popular computer applications and systems.

  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people and partners.
  • Fluency in one of the African Union’s working languages. It would be helpful to know two or more of the other main languages. Those who want to join must be fluent in one of the main languages of the African Union, which are Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish. It would be helpful to know one or more or even several other useful languages.
