International Development Enterprises (iDE) is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and dynamic team player to occupy the vacant position below;

Job Position: Senior Director, Business Development

iDE’s Business Development team is responsible for securing funding to grow iDE as a whole, as well as supporting individual countries and projects. The Business Development Department works with country teams to chart global and country-level business development strategies, acts as iDE’s external representation and positioning to key stakeholders, and is ultimately responsible for securing resources from bilateral government development agencies, multilateral development groups, as well as foundations and multi-national corporations.

The Senior Director of Business Development is accountable for developing and executing on the BD funding goal. This person will work across country teams and departments to deliver on our ambitious plans to resource iDE’s new strategic plan and may directly manage one or more team members/interns. This person will play a key role in iDE’s external representation and positioning to donors, partners, and other stakeholders. The Senior Director of Business Development is a senior leadership position at iDE.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Lead iDE’s business development relationship management with donors and partners, with a strong focus on strategic pre-positioning of iDE and iDE’s country programs, landscape analyses by technical sector and by country, developing competitive partnerships, pre-bid capture and proposal development. This includes:
  • Understand iDE’s strategic directions, program and projects, and their funding requirements;
  • Have a strong familiarity with USAID and other bilateral funding modalities;
  • Assist in developing productive relationships with US and international-based partners and donors;
  • Identify and match technical and geographic strategic priorities with appropriate funding opportunities.
  • Provide support to global and country-specific new business efforts. This includes:
  • Research, track, and cultivate funding opportunities and partnerships; analyze and assess their appropriateness for iDE; disseminate pertinent information to the Business Development team and country offices;
  • Work closely with the Business Development team, country offices, and iDE’s Global Initiatives team to support proposal submissions. This includes facilitating technical design, research, writing, editing, “Red Team” quality control, budgeting support, review, and approval.
  • Analyze wins and losses to inform strategy on future bids
  • Set up, manage, and support the business development manager(s) with maintaining tracking systems. This includes:
  • Tracking leads, opportunities, and donors in Salesforce and other tools being used by iDE.
  • Compile and file required information obtained from the field on each project, i.e. grant proposals, reports, contracts, MOUs, etc.;
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a database of internal and external consultants who can support the development and/or implementation of iDE projects.
  • Represent iDE at meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Support presentation materials (to include fact gathering, writing, and review) for board and donor reporting.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of concept notes and proposals; corporate capability statements and program reports; CVs of key personnel, etc.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Coordinate with the Global Initiatives and Fundraising departments to support cross-departmental fundraising opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team to produce marketing materials.
  • Coordinate with the Finance team to develop country-program and aspirational budgets
  • Coordinate with and support the Operations team on review of grant agreements and contracts, and handing off of project management responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly oversee one or more team members and or interns, as well as dotted-line supervision or mentoring of other HQ and country staff supporting business development.

Requirements

  • Strong networking and relationship-building experience and expertise, ideally in sectors related to iDE’s work (including agriculture, WASH, market systems development, climate, gender, nutrition, and circular economy)
  • Experience and expertise with writing winning proposals, raising funds, and entering into agreements with USAID and similar US-based donors.
  • Experience or understanding of requirements of non-US donor agencies (EC, IFAD, UN orgs, World Bank, etc.) preferred. Interest and experience with innovative finance (impact bonds, etc.) is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial and results oriented, with experience working in fast-paced dynamic teams.
  • Minimum four years of experience in business development for large grants and/or contracts with multiple donors, with a preference for experience with USAID and international donors.
  • Ability to prepare and review complex program budgets.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous global activities; proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; cross-cultural communication skills required.
  • Strong team skills: able to work collaboratively with senior iDE program and head office staff, consultants, donors, local governmental agencies, and other experts in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite is required. Salesforce experience preferred.
  • B.A/B.S. in a related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Fluent English required; intermediate to advanced knowledge in at least one other language strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel between 5 – 15%.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The annual salary range for this position is $105,000 – $116,250.
