AFRICAN UNION (AfCFTA) is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and dynamic team player to occupy the vacant position below;
Job Position: CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER (AFCFTA)
Purpose of Job
Helps with the management and oversight of the AfCFTA Secretariat’s procurement activities to make sure that results are met within the suggested Rules, Regulations, budget, and timeframe.
Main Functions
- Give technical and intellectual help and guidance to the management of different purchasing bodies in the work area.
- Take care of the Secretariat of the Local Internal Procurement Committee.
- Make a detailed Annual Procurement Plan for the AfCFTA Secretariat.
- Create and implement a detailed Procurement Record Policy.
- Deal with audit problems.
- Watch and evaluate how the different procurement activities are done.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Carrying out the procedures of the Tender Board in accordance with the African Union Procurement Guidelines
- Make sure that the subcommittees, like the Local Tender Board, Evaluation Committee, Opening Committee, and Inspection Committee, do the work that the Tender Board gave them.
- Take minutes and keep records of Tender Board meetings.
- Act as a desk officer for all Tender Board issues and come up with a way to keep archives of bid documents and other Tender Board issues.
- Prepare Tender documents in collaboration with the Heads of Departments
Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience
- Master’s degree in management, Procurement, Supply Chain, Law, Commerce, Business Administration, or Public Administration with 7 years of experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Public Procurement, or Administration, of which 3 years should be at a management level.
- Or a bachelor’s degree in a similar field and 10 years of work in the field, including 3 years as a supervisor.
- Experience with web-based management systems like SAP.

- Able to help set clear program goals, plans, and actions that are in line with agreed-upon strategies, and to delegate, watch, and change these plans and actions in the right way.
- Able to make reports that are clear and professional.
- Knowing one of the working languages of AU officials (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish) and being fluent in another or more AU languages is a plus.
